The ketogenic diet is high in fat but very low in carbohydrates. Rich in proteins and fats, you eat meats, eggs, cheeses, fish, nuts, butter, oils, seeds, and fibrous vegetables. By consuming mostly fat, your body has to relearn how to convert energy within ketosis, when the body burns fat instead of carbs for energy.
Some people have adopted a keto diet to help with weight loss, and there are studies that have shown people with epilepsy may have few seizures on the diet. Further studies are exploring whether or not a keto diet may help people with other medical issues such as diabetes.
